Ethics statement

Since the start it has been of fundamental importance that Fedinews acts responsively and with care, we therefore comply by a code of ethics.

However as of now we are a pretty small project and cannot make promises people on the project aren’t involved are politically affiliated. Until or if we ever are able to hire employees we cannot make such a promise.

We should give the full name of a source and as much information as needed to identify the source and explain why the person is credible. Where appropriate, include source’s age; title; name of company, organization or government department; and hometown.

If we quote someone from a written document – a report, email or news release — we should say so.

Anonymous sources

Transparency is essential to our credibillity with the public and our readers. Whenever possible, we pursue information on the record. When a newsmaker insists on the background or off-the-record ground rules, we must adhere to a strict set of guidelines.

  1. The material is infomation and not opinion or speculation, and is vital to the report.
  2. The information is not available except under the conditions of anonymity imposed by the source.
  3. The source is reliable, and in a position to have direct knowledge of the information.

Quotations

Quotes must not be taken out of context. We do not alter quotations, even to correct grammatical errors or word usage. If a quotations is flawed because of grammar o lack of clarity, it may be paraphrased in a way that is completely true to the original quote. If a quote’s meaning is too murky to be paraphrased accurately, it should not be used.
